WIFI-6 Two distinct technologies, one common goal

WiFi-6 relies on two key technologies. Firstly, Multi-User, Multiple-Input, Multiple-Output (MU-MIMO). Secondly, Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiple Access (OFDMA).

MU-MIMO allows your router to communicate with multiple devices simultaneously, instead of transmitting its signal from one device to another. Thus, your router can now communicate with up to 8 devices at the same time.

As for OFDMA, it optimizes each data transmission. This technique is already employed by 4G. In other words, each data transmission is smarter, affecting the speed at which data is received on your various devices.

This time, it's all about your devices, like your company's smartphones, tablets and computers. If they are compatible with WiFi 6, they will incorporate functions that allow you to plan their connection. The result is optimised data transmission. And equipment that consumes much less energy, thanks to the TWT (Target Wake Time) function.

Meanwhile, when it comes to securing wireless links, WiFi 6 is based on a new protocol certified by the WiFi Alliance consortium: WPA 3. In concrete terms, this simplifies WiFi security while strengthening authentication and the degree of encryption. What's more, specific procedures have been designed for professionals to meet the constraints they face in the field and the risks of cyber-attacks.
